A Happy List for a Gloomy Day

I started this blog as a way to focus on the positive things in life. Well, school has been crappy lately. Really, really crappy. (Excuse the unrefined language.) There have been several tests and assignments recently that I've done horribly on and I can't figure it out. Anyway, today was another one of those days when I let a letter on a paper determine my outlook on life. As I pouted on my way home from school, I realized I was being silly and decided to make a list of things that make me happy. Here it is:

1.) Wearing my spring jacket. Sunshine.
2.) Finding thoughtful notes that best friends have tucked away in my book.
3.) Attending accounting events. Seeing friends from the accounting program, catching up, having lunch.
4.) When the vending machine messes up and vends two packs of my favorite fruit snacks.
5.) Thinking that I'm late for class, hurrying to the building, flinging open the classroom door only to be met by a roomful of unfamiliar faces. Realizing that I can't tell time and that I still have an hour until my class starts. Using that time to take a nap. Mmmm.
6.) Going out to dinner with some PwC partners that are in town.
7.) Realizing how blessed I am to have a job.
8.) Getting a haircut. So refreshing.
9.) Finding a song about San Francisco. (San Francisco by Scott McKenzie--if you know any other songs about San Fran or Cali, let me know!)
10.) Getting our kitchen sink fixed.
11.) Finding my journal. It was lost for a few weeks. Thankfully it was in the lost & found at the Provo temple. Of course, I did have to endure razing from the temple workers for losing it in the first place. After that I didn't have the guts to ask them if they also had the journal I lost last semester...
12.) Making it through Thursday. No class on Friday. :)

A Much Needed Update

SOOO many things to report on.

a.) I went skiing for the first time since 7th grade. It was a humbling experience, but very fun. Thank you PwC for sponsoring such a fun event.

b.) I had my fly out with PwC. To be honest, I was a little apprehensive. What if I didn't like San Francisco? But no worries because I LOVED San Francisco. I'm kind of addicted. I loved people watching, walking in all the stores (Saks Fifth Ave, Tiffany's, HUGE William Sonoma, Anthropology), seeing the street performers and artists, driving in taxis, having business lunches and dinners, Three Embarcadero, the people at PwC, and most of all the view from the 20th story looking over the city, bridge, and bay. AMAZING! All of it. My interview went well...see c.).

c.) I GOT A JOB!!! After we were done interviewing on Thursday, we went out to lunch with some first and second year associates. They said that they heard back from PwC that night. I flew back to Provo a few hours later. As soon as the plane touched down I dove for my phone. There was a voicemail from Anne Kennedy, a partner in the San Francisco office, extending an offer for a full time position!!! I might have screamed. As it turns out, the girl I sat next to was an accounting student from BYU-I. She had been on a fly out in San Francisco interviewing for an internship with one of the other Big Four. She knew exactly why I was freaking out. And I like to think that the rest of the people on the plane were happy for me too as they were forced to listen to me call my parents.

d.) That Saturday I was awakened at two in the morning to Katelyn fumbling in the dark on her way to the bathroom. A few seconds later I heard the sounds of one sick, sick girl. I jumped out of bed to hold her hair back, but I had missed all the excitement by the time I got to her. Still feeling like she was going to be sick, I laid outside the bathroom while she sat on the tub. We waited. Eventually it happened, however my plan did not go as expected. Instead of being the kind and loving friend that I had hoped to be, I jumped up only to start gagging. GAAAGING!!! Tears were rolling down my face and I started crawling to the other bathroom, convinced that I was going to be sick as well. Partway there I started to laugh. Hard. Katelyn, who was still busy being sick exclaimed, "Why are you laughing at me?!" Of course I wasn't actually laughing at her, I was laughing at what a horrible mother I'm going to be. My poor children. I hope their father has a stronger stomach than I do.

BUT, that's not the end of d.). D.) is actually that I got the flu, too. Katelyn and I were miserable together. It lasted a good 5 days. Factor in my fly out and that brought my total of school missed to one week.

e.) Homework. Make-up work. See d.).

Happy Presidents' Day!

I have a feeling that this will be a glorious day. It started off with breakfast at Kneaders in celebration of Cami's birthday--HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR! Katelyn and I will spend the rest of the day like this: sweatpants, homework, nap, Olympics/homework, nap, more Olympics/homework, dinner date with Katelyn (homemade french dip, yum!), Olympics/homework, bedtime. It's overcast and drizzling, the perfect weather for a day at home.

A Valentine's Day Celebration

Valentine’s Day is a BIG deal in our apartment. Mostly because it is Katelyn’s favorite holiday. This year, as an ode to Julia Child, we had a dinner party, complete with wearing big paper hearts.

We also attempted to make cake bites. The verdict is still out on the final product...

But here's how it works:

A baked cake & cream cheese frosting

Mix together

Scoop and freeze for a few hours

Finish by dipping in white chocolate.

A Busy, Busy Friday

Friday. Found out I got a second interview. Was so excited I wanted to scream for the next three hours. Went to Target. Bought wonderful gifts for upcoming birthdays. Went to Guru's with my favorite ladies, Mandi, Brittney, and Katelyn. Had people over to watch the Olympics. Got picked up for a date at 11:00 p.m. (Yes, that's past my bedtime. Yes, I tried to be a good date despite the fact that I tend to get grumpy when tired.) Went to the hot pots in Midway. Had fun. Got a diet coke on the way back. Rocked out to some favorite tunes, too. Shower. Bed.

I GOT A SECOND INTERVIEW!!!

I got a second interview with PricewaterhouseCoopers!!! Did I mention that I've fallen in love with the firm? Because I have. Let's just hope this all works out.

I'll live in this city:

I'll work in this building:

And I'll live in this itsy-bitsy studio apartment:

Classic Katie & Maria

It’s been quite the week! Friday morning was an interview for my dream job (PwC in San Francisco…Cross your fingers, I hear back this Friday!). Friday afternoon/night was cramming for two tests. Saturday was taking those two tests, back-to-back (gross, I know, but they were both only open Thursday-Saturday). Saturday night was by far the highlight of the weekend--a girl's night with Maria.

Who’s Maria? Only one of the most wonderful people in the world! We met the first day of freshmen orientation and did some serious bonding as we walked up the stairs of death with our sandal-blistered feet. Since then we’ve been glued at the hip.

Saturday we had ourselves a classic Katie & Maria outing. Here’s how it works. First, we get dressed up all hipster. Next, we go to Pizzeria 7/12. We sit side-by-side so we can analyze the other people in the restaurant (“What date do you think they’re on?” “Definitely a first or second, look how they’re sitting.”) We order one salad and one pizza. We take turns picking up the check. Then we head to the theater to watch some ridiculously corny, albeit wonderful, chick flick. This time the movie was When In Rome. Definitely corny…and definitely one of my favorite new movies. Hooray for Katie & Maria time!
